Leeu House — Franschhoek, South Africa

A five-star Leeu Collection hideaway right on Franschhoek’s main street — walk-everywhere Winelands luxury, minus the long estate driveways.

The short version

What is it?

Leeu House sits in the middle of Franschhoek village, steps from the tasting rooms, galleries, and restaurants, so you can park the car and wander. Twelve rooms and suites in soft, neutral tones, marble bathrooms with underfloor heating, a heated outdoor pool, and The Conservatory for a quiet dinner. It’s part of the same Leeu Collection as the grander Leeu Estates just outside town.

Why stay here?

Because it’s Winelands luxury without the long estate driveway — the same polish as Leeu Estates, more walkable, and often a less expensive nightly rate. We stayed two nights and it’s the rare splurge we’d happily repeat: the service was genuinely exceptional, the rooms and pool are as lovely as they look, and you can walk to dinner (we loved Protégé) and to the Great Heart tasting room a few doors down. Recent guests score it 9.2.
