Omni Mount Washington Resort & Spa — Bretton Woods, New Hampshire

The grand white-and-red resort at Bretton Woods, beneath Mount Washington — a year-round New Hampshire icon with skiing, golf, a spa, and a place in history.

The short version

What is it?

The Omni Mount Washington is the classic white-and-red grand hotel at the foot of Mount Washington, a Spanish Renaissance landmark open since 1902. It sits at Bretton Woods — the resort, the ski area, and the historic name are one and the same place — with the Kancamagus, Franconia Notch, and the Cog Railway all close by.

Why stay here?

A note of honesty: we’ve visited the resort but haven’t stayed over, so we’re recommending it for what it plainly is — a grand four-season base beneath Mount Washington. In fall it sits right among the foliage drives; in winter it opens onto Bretton Woods, New Hampshire’s largest ski area, plus 100 km of Nordic trails. Year-round there’s golf, tennis, a zipline canopy tour, indoor and outdoor pools, a full spa, and nine restaurants on site. And for the history-minded, this is where the 1944 conference rebuilt the post-war global economy — worth the detour for that alone.
